Fueled by a decade-long passion for fitness and the drive to overcome mental discipline, Phillip took on the Transformation Challenge to make “No Excuses” his reality. Here’s his story:
“Fitness has always been an integral part of my life, and I genuinely love it. I thrive on challenges and pushing my limits through sports or workouts; it’s something that energizes me.
That said, before starting the Transformation Challenge, I was trying to maintain healthy habits, but was inconsistent. I struggled to stick to a regular diet and sleep schedule, especially during stressful periods. When stress built up, it would disrupt my entire routine, making it harder to prioritize balance.
My goal for the Challenge was simple: to crush it. For me, that meant fully committing to the diet and exercise schedule set for us during this period.
It wasn’t just about physical progress – it was about building the mental strength that comes from staying disciplined.
I wanted to make "No Excuses" my mindset again and prove to myself that I can stay committed, no matter what.
During this Challenge, I was also celebrating 10 years of doing Freeletics, and I couldn’t think of a better way to mark this milestone.”
Quitting the comparison game
“Even with ten years of experience, the mental aspect of fitness was still tough. But halfway through, something really important clicked for me. I had started comparing my progress to others in the Challenge, especially when I hit a plateau. I was doing everything by the book – training, eating clean – but the scale didn’t move, and I got frustrated.
It made me wonder: Am I doing something wrong? Are others just better than me?
But then I reminded myself: progress isn’t always linear, and comparison kills joy. What truly matters is showing up, trusting the process, and sticking to the system.
That realization helped me let go of unnecessary pressure.”

Discovering my resilience
“Before the challenge, I focused mostly on the workouts and did them whenever it suited my schedule. If I was busy or stressed, I often skipped them without thinking twice. Now, things are different – I stick to the training plan no matter what.
Actually, from the Challenge, I learned that working out actually helps me during those phases – it clears my head and resets my focus.
And I’ve found that I really enjoy working out – especially when it’s hard. There’s something incredibly empowering about finishing a tough session. That “I just did that” feeling makes me feel not just physically strong, but also mentally resilient.
Sure, sticking 100% to the nutrition plan is sometimes challenging – I definitely miss pizza once in a while – but overall, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve come this far, and I knew I was all in for the rest of the journey.”
Lifestyle pivot
“My lifestyle changed a lot over the course of the Transformation Challenge. I started paying more attention to the basics – sleep, food, recovery – and I saw how much impact they actually have. I dropped bad habits like overeating and eating too quickly, which held me back before.
Beyond that, I started prioritizing all aspects of fitness: nutrition, sleep, recovery, and even technique work. It became less about showing up and more about doing things with intention.
People definitely noticed the change, both physically and in how I show up day to day. Some were surprised by my consistency, while others felt inspired and started asking about my routine.
Fitness stopped feeling like something I had to do – and became something I wanted to do."
Finding my #NoExcuses mindset
“Did I achieve my goal? Yes, though my goals changed along the way. I started out focusing on numbers and skills – reducing body fat, learning specific movements – but as the weeks went by, my main goal became simply sticking to the plan.
I’m proud that I stayed consistent and followed through, even when it was tough. That feeling of showing up for myself again and again has been the most rewarding part of the Transformation Challenge.
Physically, my body feels and looks leaner and stronger. I have more energy, better posture, and I actually feel fit. Mentally, I’ve become more disciplined and focused.
I’m more aware of my patterns, and I make more conscious decisions in everyday life – whether that’s movement, food, or mindset.
I’ve finally developed a #NoExcuses mindset, along with a clear blueprint for achieving similar transformations.”

My advice: find your support system.
“Don’t be shy to seek out support – it’s not a weakness, it’s a smart move. Whether it’s a coach, a workout buddy, or the community around you, having people to lean on makes a huge difference.
Also, focus on building a system that fits your life – a routine that includes training, nutrition, recovery, and some accountability. You don’t need to be perfect.
What matters most is showing up consistently and trusting the process. Once you feel the difference, you’ll know you’re on the right track.”
