“Freeletics made me feel stronger and proud.” – Olga’s story

Olga Sha blog

Freeletics helped me go through cancer and stay positive and strong. Get to know how by reading my story.

I have never been extremely overweight, extremely underweight, extremely sporty or extremely inactive. I was just an ordinary person with quite an ordinary life. But I have had to face a number of difficulties which not everyone can even imagine.

In 2013, when I was 24 years old, I was diagnosed with skin cancer for the first time. That was the moment I started to take better care of my health and lifestyle. I began learning about nutrition, body composition and biochemistry. It was a completely new world for me! My new hobby kept me busy and distracted me from negative or depressed thoughts related to my cancer. Step by step I started to exercise and to try different types of training.

Unfortunately, my new interest in a “fit and healthy lifestyle” turned into somewhat of an obsession. I simply overtrained, ate too little and didn’t have enough rest, which resulted in the development of anorexia and other related health and psychological problems. I needed time to fight it, so I stopped training, became more relaxed with my nutrition habits and regained the necessary weight.

I started to search for way to build and nurture a healthy relationship with myself, food and fitness. Here I must say that I had the most supportive boyfriend (now husband) in the world, who has always been by my side no matter what. In 2015 I discovered Freeletics and each struggle against the Gods made me feel stronger and more proud of myself. For 2016 I had planned to take part in my first marathon and to participate in my first Spartan Race Trifecta. But life had different plans for me. My cancer came back, this time in a more advanced stage. As soon as I was physically able to start doing Freeletics again, I was doing it. I needed a lot of breaks, I was taking triple time for the same workouts, I couldn’t perform many exercises. It was extremely demotivating to see that I’d lost so much progress! But it’s also extremely motivating to reach my previous results, and to go even further now.

My struggle has already been long and it’s not entirely over yet. A few days ago I was declared cancer-free for the second time. Freeletics has already given me not only the healthy body and strong mind necessary for a successful fight against this enemy and overcoming all operations, treatments and therapies, but it has also given me amazing support with the Freeletics community, who support me on a daily basis both online and offline. Together we are stronger!
