Hi I’m Seana from Scotland. Most of you will know me from my 14 week transformation video. But what you probably don’t know is that I also write the Freeletics Blog. Yup that’s right, I’m the person who shares life changing stories from the community, because I’ve been there and done it myself. Now I decided it’s about time I shared mine. This is how I transformed my life with Freeletics. Let it be what motivates you to do the same.
If you’ve watched my video you already know that I used to be into sports. I played basketball for my high school and junior university team and was always into running and swimming. But being a student, my priorities soon changed and I became preoccupied with partying and studying. This is when I really started to let myself go.
The turning point in my life came shortly after I graduated. I woke up one morning and saw my reflection in the mirror. The partying was over. My studies were finished. All I was left with was a reflection of a person I didn’t even recognise. No smile. No self confidence. To be honest my appearance sickened me. I couldn’t look forward to anything and I didn’t even like leaving my house. I had almost given up on myself when I discovered Freeletics.
I started Freeletics with a clear goal in my mind. I had a vision of the person I wanted to become and this vision is what pushed me to start and also what kept me going. At the beginning of my training, it was winter. Many called me crazy, but I refused to let this stop me. Rain or shine, I trained before work at around 7am, four to five times a week. Mainly because this was the only spare time I had, but also because I found that my willpower was strongest in the morning. Did I ever think about giving up? Every single day. But I never let this become anything more than a thought. I got up almost every morning and gave it my all.
Of course my transformation wasn’t down to training alone. Nutrition was the other half of it and most likely what you’re interested in the most right? Well, let me tell you this: if you think training is tough, oh boy, nutrition is a totally different ball game. But you have no idea how important it is.
So what was my “secret”? For me it was about finding a balance. I had to be able to enjoy it. Otherwise I knew I would fall back into old habits. I started off gradually and spent a lot of time researching what I should eat, when I should eat it and what I could substitute for the things I love but knew were totally off limits.
The beginning seemed impossible. I was so used to eating what I wanted when I wanted. So it was really a case of training my mind to change the way it had functioned for the last few years. This wasn’t easy but overtime I learned how to take control. I went for the lower carb option because my problem was that I ate far too many carbs and at the wrong times. This meant swapping bread, rice and pasta for vegetables, fish and dairy products. Along the way I began to really enjoy experimenting with different curries and salads and I developed a passion for discovering unusual, delicious, healthy meals.
My biggest problem however was chocolate. Yes I admit it: I love chocolate and all things sweet. Doesn’t everyone? But when there’s a will, there’s a way. Although I discovered that a small spoon of natural peanut butter usually keeps cravings at bay, I still treat myself occasionally. I know I deserve it. The difference is that I now possess the willpower to say no to a second bite.
Another important tip is that you prepare yourself for a mental brick wall. My toughest point was week 5 or 6. I couldn’t see any changes. I’m an impatient person, so when I didn’t wake up every morning with a six-pack I questioned whether I should even continue. But I stuck in there. I took every day as it came. Even when I would rather die than do another burpee, I told myself to get my ass up off the couch, put my sports clothes on and just do even a Metis. No matter how much you do, anything is always better than nothing.
Being able to share my journey and my experience with the world is amazing. I want to show others that anything is possible. You just have to want it bad enough. Watching my video and what I went through still gets me emotional every single time. I really can’t believe that this person on the left was once me. But do you want to know what the best feeling is? Even though I managed to lose 15kg and 13cm from my waist, the fact that I can be proud of myself makes everything worth it. I did this. This was my hard work and my determination. No one else’s. I gave myself the chance to really achieve something amazing. And I proved to myself just what I am capable of. Not many people can say that.

Look at me when I first started. There is no difference between you and I. The only thing that separates us is the fact I made a decision. A decision that you can easily make too. Take it from me, it will be the toughest challenge you ever set yourself. But only for the first few weeks. Then, it becomes your passion. My new life is amazing. I’m so happy and confident. In my eyes there is nothing I can’t do anymore. Most of my time is spent smiling, I wake up looking forward to every day and best of all, I’m excited for my future. Freeletics is an amazing thing. It was my chance. My opportunity. And the thing that saved me from living a life I knew was below my capabilities. So next time you come close to giving up remember my motto:
